Renton VIRTUAL Multicultural Festival “Unity in Hope,” Nov. 7 & 8

Grab your family, friends and favorite popcorn! Our virtual Multicultural Festival "Unity in Hope" will feature performers from our diverse community sharing music, dance, song, poetry and fashion. The festival will premiere Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7 and 8, at 4 p.m. on Channel 21 and on the city's YouTube page. The show also features a welcoming "Happy" video from residents, members of the Mayor’s Inclusion Task Force, and city staff. Mark your calendar so you don’t miss it!

Age-Friendly Renton Community Survey

We are thinking about the future, including an increased senior population. We want well-planned resources for our older adults to engage in social, civic, and educational activities. Our designation as an "Age-Friendly City" by AARP is just the beginning of our work. We're now looking for more input.

Go to rentonwa.gov/seniorsurvey to take the Age-Friendly Renton Community Survey. It covers housing, transportation, outdoor spaces and services. Survey results will help guide policies for all our residents.

The survey will be available through Nov. 20, 2020, and takes less than 15 minutes to complete. Email recreation@rentonwa.gov to request a printed copy in English, Spanish or Vietnamese.

Virtual Talks for Seniors, Tuesday, Nov. 10

Another of our "Age-Friendly City" initiatives is a series of twice-monthly Virtual Talks featuring various topics, presenters and engaging conversation. On Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 2 to 3 p.m., we'll discuss Renton's Housing Repair and Assistance Program. The program provides minor home repairs that improve health and safety. Register to reserve your spot for this Zoom presentation using course #9383. Register at rentonwa.gov/register or, for help, call 425-430-6633. Talks take place on the second and fourth Tuesdays, from 2 to 3 p.m.

Safeway and Albertsons offer free flu vaccines for uninsured adults over 18

Washington State Department of Health (DOH) is collaborating with Safeway and Albertsons to offer no-cost flu vaccines for uninsured adults over 18. DOH is concerned that the presence of the flu and COVID-19 viruses could lead to a high number of hospitalizations and strain our state’s healthcare system.

Twenty-three Albertsons and Safeway pharmacies across the state will offer flu vaccines free of charge through June 2021 to uninsured adults. The pharmacies are not charging an administration fee. Proof of residency or immigration status will not be required.

The Safeway Pharmacy (200 S 3rd St., Renton) is participating. Their number is 425-226-0325.

COVID-19 and our Hispanic/Latinx Community

Join the Renton Regional Community Foundation at noon on Friday, Nov. 13, for an hour of conversation looking at the effect COVID-19 has had on our Hispanic/Latinx communities.

King County data shows that Hispanic/Latinx communities have some of the highest rates of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. This high rate significantly affects those living in South King County.

The virtual town hall will feature Mirya Munoz-Roach and Virginia Herrera-Páramo, from Centro Rendu and Para Los Niños de Highline.

TOMORROW is Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3!

You can drop off your ballot at any King County dropbox through 8 p.m. sharp on Election Day, Nov 3. Boxes are emptied daily by Elections staff.

In-person voter registration is available through Election Day at any Vote Center. These centers are open for those who need assistance or who have missed mail-in deadlines; however, please use online tools if you're able. Those who come to a Vote Center in person must wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth.

For more information on the General Election, visit our website or King County Elections.

CommUNITY Conversations with Renton Chamber, Thursday, Nov. 5

“What Difference do Renton Women Make?”

A lot, it turns out! In a new exhibit, Renton History Museum celebrates the centennial of national women's suffrage by exploring the extraordinary lives of Renton achievers. From building and supporting hospitals, libraries, schools and churches to advocating for civil and human rights and fighting poverty, their accomplishments are brought to life. The Renton History Museum (235 Mill Ave. S) is open Wednesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
