📰 News we're reading

• Renton ordinance revisions focus on wetlands, sensitive areas (rentonreporter.com) — Renton’s new critical areas ordinance is set to be codified this month, tightening protections for local wetlands, streams, and flood-prone zones after recent city flooding. The updated rules, mandated by Washington’s Growth Management Act, mostly affect property owners and developers building near sensitive areas, while giving residents a way to challenge channel migration zone maps and reinforcing safeguards for people, infrastructure, and wildlife habitat.

• Seahawks' Jaxon Smith-Njigba named to Associated Press All-Pro team (yakimaherald.com) — Renton-based Seahawks fans can celebrate as Jaxon Smith-Njigba has been unanimously named a first-team AP All-Pro wide receiver, only the second in franchise history after Steve Largent. The All-Pro list also includes several Seahawks on the second team, marking the club’s strongest overall showing since 2014 and highlighting both the offense’s star power and the league’s top scoring defense.

• What States Raise Minimum Wages in 2026? Here's the List (ntd.com) — Renton workers will see an inflation-based minimum wage increase this year, alongside Seattle, Everett, and King County. The broader report shows 22 states and dozens of cities raising pay in 2026, with Washington’s statewide minimum now at $17.13 and many jurisdictions nationwide moving past $15 an hour while others remain stuck at the federal $7.25 level.
