Renton teen sentenced for accidental fatal shooting (rentonreporter.com) — A Renton teenager has been sentenced to just over eight years for accidentally shooting and killing his close friend inside a home on Camas Avenue Northeast in 2024. Court records describe a panicked 911 call from the Renton address, officers and Renton Regional Fire Authority rushing to save the victim, and a plea deal that dismissed several other pending charges.
   

2. Flood science: How December's atmospheric river soaked Washington (tacomadailyindex.com) — December’s powerful atmospheric river pushed the Cedar River at Renton to a record 18.22 feet, topping the old mark by more than a foot. Scientists explain how saturated soils, warm temperatures, and intense rain—not snowmelt—combined to drive record or near-record river levels across King County and other Western Washington communities.
   

3. WSDOT is extending express toll lanes on SR 167 by six miles (kiro7.com) — If you commute from Renton on SR 167, expect expanded tolling soon. WSDOT is extending the northbound express toll lanes six miles farther south to SR 410 in Sumner starting Monday, January 12, building on the toll segment already operating between Renton and Pacific, with variable rates and specific Good To Go! requirements for free carpool and motorcycle travel.
   

4. Renton man charged in fatal Seattle shooting (seattleweekly.com) — A Renton resident has been charged with first-degree murder after prosecutors say he fatally shot a man at a Seattle hookah lounge in December. The 30-year-old was later booked in Renton on an unrelated DUI crash, and investigators then linked him to the earlier shooting through surveillance video, scooter records, and DNA evidence. He remains jailed on $3 million bail with arraignment set for Jan. 14.
   

5. Inside the Boeing 737 Factory Shaping the Pace of Airline Growth (skift.com) — Boeing’s 737 production line in Renton is cautiously ramping up again, with managers emphasizing discipline over speed after years of intense safety scrutiny. The FAA has just allowed a modest increase in monthly output, which could gradually affect jobs, suppliers, and airline schedules tied to Renton’s key manufacturing plant.
