Renton Farmers Market
Find out what's happening in Rentonfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
What better way to celebrate the summer weather than a trip to the Renton Farmers Market? This week brings the first fresh corn of the season; fruits including apricots and peaches; berries of all kinds; a wide variety of vegetables including pickling cucumbers; fresh herbs; and beautiful flowers. Also stock up on baked goods, pickles, jam, honey, meats and cheeses, and cider. After you circle through the market, pick up a pint of pre-packed Bluebird Ice Cream to go and find the Rain City Too food truck across Third Street. Next week, look for grab-and-go activity kits for kids!
The market is open Tuesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. in downtown Renton at South Third Street and Logan Avenue. If possible, please send only one person per household to shop. To promote social distancing, please wear your mask and be patient. Shop after 6 p.m. for shorter lines and fewer shoppers.

Campin’ Out Week 3
This is the third of the four-week Campin’ Out Series brought to you by our Recreation and Neighborhoods division with outdoor-themed activities that can be enjoyed inside or out. Tonight at 6:30 p.m., Northwest Animal Adventures will share Creepy Crawly Critters with us! Throughout the week, meet barnyard animals, colossal reptiles, and wildlife critters from across the globe; learn how to create a DIY bug hotel; and pick up s’mores and birdhouse kits. Click here for the list of this week’s activities and Zoom information. All activities can be streamed on the Community Services Facebook page or via Zoom.

Coulon Park Playground Replacement Survey Results
Thank you to the 931 community members who responded to the survey to select the new playground for Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park. Respondents were asked what they liked best about each design and for general feedback. The community preferred Option A, with 53% of the votes, for its layout, variety, climbing structures, and multi-person and inclusive swings. The selected playground design provides many all-abilities components, including an all-abilities see-saw, an all-abilities group swing and individual inclusive swings, super net-plex and crab trap structures. As part of the 2019-2021 State Capital Budget, a Direct Appropriation grant was awarded to completely fund this replacement of existing 17-year-old play equipment. Construction is planned for this coming fall/winter. More information can be found here.

Benson Mural - Meet the Artist on Zoom
Meet the mural artist, Mari Shibuya, who will brighten a 200-foot concrete wall at the intersection of SE Petrovitsky Road and 116th Avenue SE. Email Bensonhillmuralproject@gmail.com if you’d like to join the Zoom meeting and learn about the project on Thursday, July 23, 5–6 p.m. The mural design will be a collaborative effort between the City of Renton, Renton Municipal Arts Commission, AmeriCorps VISTA Program, and the Benson Hill and Cascade community. Together we will engage in online conversations and creative activities, focusing on identifying what community means to these neighborhoods. The result will be a unique public art piece that represents this community's diverse perspectives and experiences. Funding will come from the City of Renton Neighborhood Program with a matching grant from the Renton Municipal Arts Commission.
Mari Shibuya is a Seattle-based artist, muralist, and facilitator who grew up in the Renton area. Learn more about Mari and her work here.

Barrier-Free Mobility - Take the Survey
We want to create a barrier-free city that is accessible to everyone. We are in the process of updating our plan to identify, prioritize and remove barriers, specifically for those with disabilities. These barriers can include cracked and uneven sidewalks, or locations without curb ramps or crosswalks that limit access of any kind.
Visit this online open house where you can review the city’s ADA transition project and even report barriers.
If you live in the city of Renton, please take this short survey to help us deliver barrier-free mobility. It should take less than 10 minutes to complete. This feedback will be used to guide the city in future planning projects and initiatives.
