2,000+ Seattle Students Rally Against Gun Violence At City Hall
Students showed up outside City Hall on Monday to demand better mental health supports and gun reforms after last week's deadly shooting.
SEATTLE — Hundreds of Seattle students participated in a walkout, march and rally Monday calling on city leaders to act after a deadly shooting at Ingraham High School last week. '
A 14-year-old boy is accused of shooting and killing a 17-year-old classmate after a fight in a school bathroom. King County Prosecutors filed three felony charges in the case, alleging premeditated murder, assault and unlawful possession of a firearm.
An estimated 2,000 students took part in the event organized by the Seattle Student Union and Ingraham Students Against Gun Violence, according to The Seattle Times. Videos shared from City Hall showed a large group of students arriving outside around 11 a.m.

Students' core demands include boosting staffing for mental health counselors, so there is at least one for every 200 students, banning assault rifles, updating safe storage laws and implementing more training for school security guards, the newspaper reported.
In the wake of last week's shooting, Seattle Public Schools superintendent Brent Jones announced a three-pronged safety initiative, including a district-wide safety and security audit, creating a community action team that includes representatives from police and city departments, and launching a "child well-being council."
