520 Bridge To Close Over Lake Washington Later This Month
The SR 520 Bridge and trail will fully close over Lake Washington late this month as crews complete more work on the Montlake lid.

SEATTLE — Drivers, cyclists and joggers planning to head over Lake Washington will not have access to the State Route 520 bridge for the last weekend of February, with a full closure scheduled between Seattle and the Eastside. Unlike other recent closures, officials said the latest round of work also requires the closure of the SR 520 Trail.
According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, crews will close SR 520 in both directions, between Interstate 5 in Seattle and 92nd Avenue Northeast on the Eastside, beginning at 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24.
The closure will allow contractors to place girders for the new cyclist and pedestrian bridge over the freeway, along with the direct access ramp to the future Montlake lid. The work is scheduled to conclude by 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27.

The $455 million project started in the summer of 2019 and is scheduled for completion next year. It includes a new eastbound bridge over Union Bay and a three-acre lid over the highway in Montlake that incorporates new transit stops and open green space. The new bicycle and pedestrian bridge will be located just east of the lid.
