520 Bridge Closing, Revive I-5 Work Resumes Friday Night
Another busy weekend of roadwork around Seattle and the Eastside includes a full closure of the SR 520 bridge over Lake Washington.
SEATTLE — This weekend could be another challenging one for drivers around Seattle, with another full closure planned on the State Route 520 bridge over Lake Washington, plus lane and ramp closures needed for more "Revive I-5" expansion joint repairs.
The toll bridge will close in both directions between Seattle and Clyde Hill by 11 p.m. Friday and is scheduled to reopen before the Monday morning commute. Crews will use that time to alter lane alignments near Montlake and establish a work zone between eastbound and westbound lanes. The weekend work is part of the broader, $455 million SR 520 Montlake Project, which includes a new freeway lid and bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Washington State Department of Transportation recommends drivers heading to or from Seattle take the Interstate 90 floating bridge, and those heading from Snohomish County to the Eastside utilize Interstate 405.

Two more projects may add more weekend delays for drivers headed through Seattle. WSDOT plans to close one southbound lane of Interstate 5, along with the off-ramp to Columbian Way and the West Seattle Bridge late Friday so crews can replace more expansion joints. Separate work will also require the southbound Mercer Street off-ramp to close until Monday morning.

With more drivers likely to utilize I-90 this weekend, WSDOT also recommends that drivers who typically rely on Interstate 5 consider taking alternate routes, like I-405 or SR 99, or using public transit.
