Bellevue High School Students Take Part in "Day of Service"
Students from BASIS Independent Bellevue gave back to various non-profits
Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, local high school students stepped out of the classroom and into the community for a meaningful Day of Service, dedicating their time and energy to supporting nonprofits, neighbors, and younger students across the area.
Throughout the day, students partnered with several respected local organizations, including the Seattle Humane Society, Bellevue Botanical Garden, The Vera Project, and Jubilee REACH. At each site, students learned firsthand about the mission and community impact of these nonprofits while exploring potential career pathways connected to nonprofit work, environmental stewardship, animal welfare, and social services.
In addition to learning, students rolled up their sleeves to support day-to-day operations through hands-on service projects that made an immediate difference.

Service also extended closer to home. High school students supported the hyperlocal community by assisting in elementary classrooms, helping teachers with activities and mentoring younger learners. Others participated in campus clean-up efforts and worked to restore the nearby park and trail system across the street, contributing to the upkeep of shared community spaces.
One of the most heartfelt moments of the day came through an intergenerational service project. High school students partnered with the school’s youngest learners to create more than 100 handmade cards for Cards for Hospitalized Kids, a national nonprofit dedicated to spreading hope, joy, and encouragement to children in hospitals across the country.
