SEATTLE — Breakout Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Paul Sewald has pledged to donate cash for each strikeout he earns at the mound this season, which will support Eastside Baby Corner. The Issaquah-based social services provider serves the entire Puget Sound region, connecting families in need with financial assistance, baby food, clothing, and other essentials.

Sewald announced his "Strikeouts 4 Kids" initiative Tuesday in an Instagram post, pledging $200 per strikeout thrown through the end of the season.

"As the birth of our daughter, Chloe, changed our lives this past year, we've realized some of the challenges of raising a child," Sewald wrote. "We are so fortunate to have plenty of resources, but most families are not nearly as fortunate. Eastside Baby Corner provides those essential resources from diapers and formula to warm clothes."

On Sewald's official "Pledge It" page, the campaign estimates 89 strikeouts this season, making for more than $17,000 in projected donations for Eastside Baby Corner. With three strikeouts already in the can, the new totals will be added to the system each month, and residents are invited to contribute funds to help Sewald meet or surpass his $20,000 goal.

According to the fundraising page, just $20 can cover the cost of a baby's formula for three days, while $100 can pay for a month of diapers. Learn more about Strikeout 4 Kids and keep tabs on Sewald's progress via Pledge It.
