SEATTLE — Wednesday should provide a nice bit of sunshine before the next round of rain moves into the region, which forecasters expect will keep things wet through the weekend and beyond. According to the National Weather Service, the Seattle area can expect mostly sunny skies until late afternoon and should expect rain to return late in the evening.

More systems will be close behind, and things may get breezy.

"Another front will move across the area Wednesday night into Thursday for increasing rain chances, with the best potential along the coast, due to continuing offshore flow at the surface," forecasters wrote Tuesday. "A rather potent low pressure system will slide northwards offshore Thursday night into early Friday for additional rain chances as well as increasing south/southeast winds across the area."

Offshore winds will begin to pick up Wednesday afternoon and are expected to peak in the evening, and a wind advisory will be in place along the eastern lowlands, coast and western Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Forecasters expect active weather will carry on through the weekend and into the second week of 2023. Afternoon temperatures across the region are expected to stay in the upper 40s to low 50s. The latest outlooks from the Climate Prediction Center favor warmer and wetter conditions holding on for most of January.
