‘My Baby’s Name Is Legally Korn’: Mother Incensed At Name Mistake
A Seattle woman's tweet went viral when a spelling mistake listed her daughter's name as "Korn," the same as a nu-metal band from the 1990s.

SEATTLE, WA — Spelling mistakes are common on birth certificates and are typically treated as a minor annoyance. But the mistake made on the certificate for Kells Tate's newborn daughter was so beyond the pale, she took to Twitter.
“THE HOSPITAL MESSED UP MY BABYS NAME AND WE JUST GOT THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND ITS KORN,” Tate tweeted in all caps on April 23. “MY BABYS NAME IS LEGALLY KORN.”
Her incensed reaction can be attributed to the fact that Korn is also the name of a nu-metal band best known for its late-1990s hit "Freak on a Leash." As of Monday, her tweet has received more than 138,000 likes and commented on by more than 1,700 people.

The Seattle-based game developer joked that she’s become an expert in the band’s discography after her tweet reached Korn fans.

Results of my viral baby Korn tweet: 1. I know the title of every Korn song 2. I know the full etymology of the word corn 3. I know what Kora means in multiple languages (it’s a word in a bunch of them!!) 4. I learned a LOT of people have incorrect names on their birth cert

“Results of my viral baby Korn tweet … I know the title of every Korn song,” she said.
Rather than Korn, her child’s name is supposed to be Kora, and Tate said there’s a chance the hospital may have asked her to double check the name’s spelling on the certificate. “But to be fair I was down a lot of blood at the time,” she added.

Thankfully, a correction has been sent in and Korn will soon become Kora.
“We just mailed the corrections form,” Tate said. “Which unfortunately was the back of the Korn certificate so we can’t put it in the baby book but we’ll put a scanned version in.”
#baby update :) Kora/Korn does not know she was the main character this weekend. We just mailed the corrections form, which unfortunately was the back of the Korn certificate so we can’t put it in the baby book but we’ll put a scanned version in. :D
