Mayor-elect Wilson holds first transition meeting, stops short of endorsing SPD Chief (komonews.com) — Seattle Mayor-elect Katie Wilson has begun her transition, signaling leadership shakeups at City Hall while declining to say whether Police Chief Shon Barnes will stay. She introduced Brian Surratt as her sole deputy mayor, emphasizing his mix of City Hall and business experience and a streamlined structure meant to clarify decision-making and public access.
   

2. King County Council chooses new member to replace Zahilay (seattletimes.com) — King County has appointed longtime public servant Rhonda Lewis of Seattle to fill the District 2 Council seat, representing much of South Seattle, Skyway, and parts of Tukwila through next year’s election. Her selection makes her the first Black woman on the council and helps create the body’s first-ever female majority, with leaders citing her deep community roots and institutional experience as key strengths.
   

3. 5th Avenue Theatre brings holiday magic within reach with tactile displays (king5.com) — Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre is making its “Elf the Musical” run more accessible and hands-on with permanent tactile displays that invite audiences to touch props, glitter, and set pieces. Created by the same artisans who build the show, the interactive stations especially support blind and low-vision patrons while showcasing behind-the-scenes artistry for everyone.
   

4. Experimental brain implant helps stroke survivor regain arm function (king5.com) — A University of Washington clinical trial in Seattle is helping Auburn resident Matt Kidd regain fine-motor control in his left arm using an experimental brain implant paired with physical therapy. Surgeons placed the first-of-its-kind device on his brain, allowing targeted electrical stimulation that has restored enough movement for everyday tasks after years of limited progress from traditional rehab alone.
   

5. Award-winning documentary 'The Librarians' Takes You to the Front Lines of Democracy The Dec. 11 screening at the Central Library will be followed by a panel discussion with the director (thefactsnewspaper.com) — Seattle residents can catch a free screening of the award-winning documentary “The Librarians” on Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Central Library’s Microsoft Auditorium, followed by a panel with the director and Seattle’s chief librarian. The event, focused on nationwide book bans and censorship, requires advance registration through The Seattle Public Library and highlights SPL’s Books Unbanned program for youth.
