CLOSURE ALERT: Highway 99 lane closures ahead (westseattleblog.com) — Drivers using State Route 99 near the downtown Seattle tunnel should prepare for four nights of lane and ramp closures starting Monday, January 5, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. WSDOT crews will shut specific ramps and lanes near 6th Avenue, Alaskan Way, Dearborn Street, and Harrison Street for vegetation removal and maintenance, so plan alternate routes or extra travel time.
   

2. Sound Transit: Free fares, longer hours on New Year's Eve (mynorthwest.com) — If you’re heading out in Seattle for New Year’s Eve, all Sound Transit services, King County Metro, and the Seattle Streetcar will be free, with Link light rail running late into the night. Trains will operate every 15 minutes and the last northbound and southbound trips won’t leave until just before 2 a.m., giving riders a safer way home without driving.

Katie Wilson to be inaugurated Friday as Seattle mayor, becoming third woman to lead city (kgw.com) — Seattle is about to swear in Mayor-elect Katie Wilson on Friday, making her the third woman to lead the city and continuing a recent streak of one-term mayors. Police seek Toyota driver in fatal hit-and-run of Seattle cyclist (bellinghamherald.com) — Seattle police are asking for the public’s help identifying a white late-1990s Toyota Camry involved in a fatal hit-and-run that killed cyclist Sergio Alberto Rodriguez at Beacon Avenue South and South Stevens Street. The crash marked Seattle’s first cyclist death since 2023, and mourners and city leaders are calling for safer streets while detectives continue their investigation.
