Puppy Patrol: Here Are Seattle's Top Dog Breeds
Seattle has been called the best dog city in the country, but which dogs are Seattle's premier pups? We have the answers.
SEATTLE — It's time to discover who is Seattle's top dog.
Every year, Seattle-based pet marketplace Rover.com releases a ranking of America's most popular dog breeds, listing the top 20 most popular dog breeds across the country, as well as the top five trending dog breeds in 35 of America's biggest cities.
After many doggy deductions, Rover completed and released its 2021 ranking this week. Here's what they found.

These are the top five trending dog breeds in Seattle:
- Pembroke Welsh Corgi
- Labradoodle
- Havanese
- French Bulldog
- Australian Cattle Dog
Though the labradoodle could not unseat the corgi as the canine king of the Emerald City, Rover says it isn't surprising to see a doodle mix near the top, as doodles have been swelling in popularity across the country.

“As millions of pet parents across the U.S. welcomed new dogs to their family this past year, we’ve found that doodles are on a meteoric rise, accounting for one out of every 10 new pets added to our platform,” said Rover pet trends expert Kate Jaffe. “Among puppies, mixed breeds and Goldendoodles led the pack nationally, making them the official breeds of the ‘pandemic puppy’ boom.”
Speaking of pandemic puppy boom, Rover surveyed 1,000 dog parents, and found that 67 percent welcomed a dog into their family over the past year. 75 percent said they saw more dogs in their neighborhoods.
Here are the top 10 dog breeds nationwide:
- Mixed Breed
- Labrador Retriever
- Golden Retriever
- German Shepherd
- Goldendoodle
- Chihuahua
- Siberian Husky
- Yorkshire Terrier
- American Pit Bull Terrier
- Australian Shepherd.
Of course, if your pup didn't make the list, Rover says not to take it too personally — after all, it just means they're more unique.
“Every dog, regardless of shape, size, or breed, has the unique ability to provide us with unconditional love and emotional support—and this year has proven just how much we need it,” said Jaffe. “While the ideal companion looks different for each person, all pet parents can come together around a shared appreciation for the enduring bonds we have with our dogs.”
