Rain Lingers On, But Winds To Calm: Puget Sound Forecast

After a very gusty Tuesday, forecasters see a calmer trend emerging Wednesday. However, the last week of 2022 looks determined to stay wet.

SEATTLE — Tuesday's wild run of weather should be the worst of it for the week, but even as the winds ease Wednesday, more rain and flood concerns will linger in the coming days, according to the National Weather Service.

Wind gusts Tuesday evening were projected to peak as high as 60 mph around Seattle, renewing concerns for more power outages. King tides will continue to threaten flood threats for coastal areas Wednesday, and Tuesday lent to flooding that damaged more than a dozen homes in Seattle's South Park neighborhood, The Seattle Times reported.

Images shared on social media showed flooding elsewhere at high tide, including in Whatcom County.

After a damp and blustery night, forecasters expect winds will die down Wednesday as rain tapers to a more showery pattern.

"Wednesday continues to look much quieter weather-wise with the low departing well to our east," NWS Seattle wrote Tuesday. "The main items of concern will be the continued river flooding and what looks to be one more round of coastal flooding."

Systems due Thursday and Friday will keep rain in the forecast before drying off for a short spell to welcome the new year. Forecasters expect the heaviest rains Wednesday and Thursday will shift south of Puget Sound, but some flood risks will remain.

While the New Year's weekend should track drier, forecasters warn the break will be short-lived with more wet weather systems on the horizon for the first week of 2023.
