Washington One Of GoFundMe's Most Generous States
The fundraising platform says Washingtonians are some of the most likely to give to individuals, causes, and organizations in need.
OLYMPIA, WA — Washingtonians live to give, at least according to a new report.
As part of its annual "Giving Report", fundraising platform GoFundMe looked back at all the donations, drives and fundraisers it hosted through 2021, and found that the Evergreen State is the fourth most generous state.
That's been especially true during the pandemic, the company says, as many more people have turned to their neighbors for support during this trying time.

"If 2020 was a year in crisis, 2021 was The Year of Gratitude," the company said. "We saw this sentiment echoed throughout the GoFundMe community, with 15 million messages of thank you to and from the community and millions of donors who stepped up to help others every day."
Not only was Washington near the top of the list, but Olympia was also recognized as the 8th most generous city in the whole country.

"In 2021, we rallied together," the report reads. "We turned hard-to-watch headlines into meaningful help when it mattered most. We felt more connected to our own dreams by supporting the ambitions of others. And we were all better—and grateful—for it."
