Winter Weather Advisory Tuesday For Puget Sound: Seattle Snow Forecast

SEATTLE — The Tuesday morning commute may prove snowy around Seattle, with a chance for some areas to pick up some real accumulations, according to the latest forecasts.

The National Weather Service expected the next round of winter weather to pick up Monday night, with heavier snowfall possible during the morning hours Tuesday. Forecasters said snow totals could be "very spotty" based on elevation and local temperatures when the precipitation picks up. A winter weather advisory will be in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday.

While the official forecast calls for mostly light accumulations — under an inch for Seattle proper — a potential convergence zone developing may lend to heavier showers and bigger totals. The Seattle Weather Blog was a little more bullish, predicting a "moderate snow event" from Sea-Tac to Everett.

Forecasters expect whatever snow does fall will not stick around too long, thanks to afternoon highs warming into the 40s. Western Washington should catch a break in the action for most of Wednesday, with partly sunny skies in the forecast, but more active weather is waiting in the wings.

"Occasional rounds of precipitation are likely Wednesday night into the weekend," NWS Seattle wrote Monday. "At this time there is no definitive end for the lowland snow threat."

If February has seemed snowier in Seattle in recent years, it's not your imagination. The National Weather Service noted the Emerald City's snow totals from just the last six Februaries are higher than over the last five decades combined.
