Despite a major windstorm and lingering impacts from SNAP delays, employees gathered more than 400 “fun and essential” presents so local parents don’t have to choose between rent and Christmas.

Finalists for new Juneau fire chief present their plans for the department (ktoo.org) — A former Spokane Valley Fire Department deputy chief is one of two finalists vying to lead Juneau’s Capital City Fire/Rescue, bringing more than 30 years of Pacific Northwest fire service experience. He and a Valdez-based chief outlined plans to tackle staffing shortages, retention, and mental health support as Juneau prepares to choose its next fire chief.

Widespread power outages in Inland Northwest due to strong winds (khq.com) — Spokane Valley residents are among roughly 50,000 Avista customers still without power after an intense windstorm that brought 80-plus mph gusts across the Inland Northwest. Crews hope to restore electricity by the end of the weekend but grounded helicopters are slowing repairs, so customers are urged to be patient and to report downed lines or gas smells immediately.
