Tool to help domestic violence survivors is working in Yakima, expert says (thenewstribune.com) — Yakima police are using an 11-question lethality assessment app to quickly identify domestic violence survivors at highest risk and connect them with the YWCA and other services. A criminology expert who embedded with Yakima officers in 2023–24 says the tool accurately flags danger, is widely used on local calls, and could be improved further with more training and technical tweaks.
   

2. Yakima's MarJon Beauchamp shines in USA basketball victories (swxlocalsports.com) — A Yakima native is leading the scoring for Team USA in early World Cup qualifying games, turning his NBA comeback into a source of hometown pride. MarJon Beauchamp says he’s playing not just for the country, but for Yakima and the 509, as friends and family back home cheer him on.
   

3. Expanding the market for tree fruit discussed by Washington tree fruit growers (yakimaherald.com) — Yakima-area growers are still feeling the fallout from this year’s Del Monte cannery closure, which left thousands of tons of Bartlett pears in the Yakima Valley unharvested. At a Wenatchee fruit growers’ meeting, marketers and farmers discussed how oversupply, low prices, labor shortages, and shifting consumer habits are squeezing local orchards and what new marketing tactics might help move more pears and cherries.
   

4. Third week of falling gas prices across Yakima (kimatv.com) — Drivers in Yakima are seeing some relief at the pump, with average gas prices dropping nearly 10 cents in the past week to about $3.67 per gallon. Prices are more than 21 cents lower than a month ago, though still slightly higher than last year, and local stations range widely from $2.90 to $4.99 per gallon.
