1. Yakima prepares to select new airport director after resignation (fox41yakima.com) — Yakima is days away from choosing a new director for Yakima’s airport, with City Manager Vikki Baker interviewing two finalists and hoping to decide this week. The hire would start around the new year and could shape future air service and operations for local travelers. Residents recently had a chance to meet both candidates in person.

2. New free clinic in Yakima works to provide health care to underserved (thenewstribune.com) — A new Yakima Free Clinic on North Third Avenue is rapidly becoming a crucial option for uninsured and underserved residents, already logging more than 800 visits since opening in May. Run almost entirely by volunteers, the clinic offers primary and urgent care, wellness classes, and chronic disease support for many Yakima Valley farmworkers and low-income families who’ve gone years without seeing a doctor.

3. Handyman charged with stealing gold, silver coins from girlfriend (yakimaherald.com) — Yakima County prosecutors have charged a Selah handyman with allegedly stealing high-value gold and silver coins from a 75-year-old woman in Yakima. Police say he had keys to her Tieton Drive home, then later sold coins at pawnshops in Ellensburg, Everett, and Yakima before being arrested by Yakima police.

4. Yakima County Commissioners move to approve five-year homeless plan (kimatv.com) — Yakima County commissioners have approved a five-year homeless response plan that will guide local policy and services for the next several years. After extensive input from Yakima community members and city leaders, commissioners backed the plan while stressing accountability, respect for unhoused residents, and careful implementation.

5. Local Yakima group providing dog igloos for strays during winter season (kimatv.com) — A Yakima Valley rescue leader is organizing low-cost “dog igloos” to help stray dogs survive the winter across Yakima County. Using insulated plastic totes instead of pricey commercial shelters, she’s inviting residents to pick up, build, and place these makeshift shelters, with instructions included, to address what she calls a local animal welfare crisis.
