Specialists will connect callers anonymously to local shelters and other help like utility assistance as temperatures drop.

Charleston man accused of robbing man of clothes he originally agreed to purchase (wchstv.com) — Charleston police arrested a 28-year-old local man after an alleged robbery involving about $1,200 in clothing at Monongalia Street and Ohio Avenue. Court records say the seller was hit with a vodka bottle, suffered facial injuries, and the suspect is now held at South Central Regional Jail on a cash-only bond.

3. Automatic LIEAP application mailing for low income energy assistance program introduced by WV Dept of Human Services (wvnstv.com) — From Charleston, state human services officials announced that starting January 5, 2026, many prior LIEAP recipients, seniors, and disabled residents will automatically receive low-income energy assistance applications by mail. Households will have until late January or early February to apply, with benefits capped at $2,000 and proof of heating costs required. Income limits and exclusions for Social Security and veterans’ benefits also apply.

Kanawha County to work with state leaders on key 2026 legislative priorities (wchstv.com) — Kanawha County leaders are gearing up for the 2026 legislative session with a push to reduce the fast-rising regional jail bill that’s straining local taxpayers and essential services around Charleston. Commissioners also want state lawmakers to cut red tape so they can demolish dangerous, dilapidated structures more quickly, building on nearly 500 tear-downs since 2021.

WVDNR releases updated fishing regulations (theintermountain.com) — From Charleston, state wildlife officials have released West Virginia’s 2026 fishing regulations, which take effect January 1 and are now available online. Local anglers should download the summary, renew licenses, and make sure they have required trout stamps before heading out next year.
