Project HOPE Pivots, Continues Efforts After Wheeling Closes Homeless Camp (theintelligencer.net) — Wheeling’s Project HOPE street medicine team is shifting its work from the recently closed homeless encampment to local shelters like The Life Hub and the Salvation Army facility on 16th Street. Despite founder Dr. William Mercer stepping away, the mobile clinic continues twice-weekly visits, coordinating with shelters to reach unhoused residents wherever they are in the city.

Fire safety tips: Space heaters, Christmas trees, and candles pose risks (wtov9.com) — Wheeling’s fire department is warning residents to use extra caution with space heaters, live Christmas trees, and candles as holiday decorating ramps up. Officials stress plugging heaters directly into wall outlets, watering trees daily, and keeping candles on stable surfaces away from anything flammable to prevent fast-moving house fires this season.

Trade Unions Donate $6,000 to Soup Kitchen of Greater Wheeling (theintelligencer.net) — Several local trade unions just delivered $6,000 in donations and dozens of turkeys to the Soup Kitchen of Greater Wheeling, boosting its ability to feed neighbors in need. The gifts came from multiple Upper Ohio Valley Building and Construction Trades affiliates, highlighting strong labor support for one of Wheeling’s most important hunger-relief organizations.

DeChantal Kroger (wtrf.com) — 7News anchors and reporters are ringing the Salvation Army Red Kettle bell today at the Mount DeChantal Kroger in Wheeling, inviting residents to stop by between 4 and 6 p.m. Donations support emergency assistance, food, shelter, and other services for families across the Ohio Valley. It’s a chance to say hello to familiar faces and help neighbors in need.
   

5. West Virginia man who assaulted minor arrested for failure to register as sex offender (wtrf.com) — A federal judge in Wheeling has sentenced a Wetzel County man to 10 years in prison for failing to register as a sex offender, followed by five years of supervised release. Authorities say he was required to register for life after a 2005 conviction involving a minor and did not update his status while living in West Virginia.
