3 UW System Universities Have Over 70 Percent Students Vaccinated

70 percent of the student body at three UW System schools are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but other campus rates vary remarkably.

WISCONSIN — UW-La Crosse, UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee all have more than 70 percent of their student body fully vaccinated against COVID-19, according to UW System data released Friday.

UW-Madison leads system schools with a 91 percent vaccination rate. UW-Parkside has the lowest amount of students vaccinated with a 38 percent rate.

  • UW-Green Bay: 55 percent.
  • UW-La Crosse: 75 percent.
  • UW-Madison: 91 percent.
  • UW-Milwaukee: 74 percent.
  • UW Oshkosh: 61 percent.
  • UW-Parkside: 38 percent.
  • UW-Platteville: 47 percent.
  • UW-River Falls: 55 percent.
  • UW-Stevens Point: 46 percent.
  • UW-Stout: 58 percent.
  • UW-Superior: 50 percent.
  • UW-Whitewater: 64 percent.

UW System interim president Tommy Thompson told Patch that he had no plans to mandate vaccinations in system schools at a visit to UW-Milwaukee Sept. 10.

Thompson had toured UW System colleges in early September, promoting the "70 for 70" incentive program. The program enters students into a drawing for a $7,000 scholarship if they get vaccinated when their campus reaches 70 percent vaccinations.

The UW System announced Thursday that Wisconsin comedian Charlie Berens would join the program with humorous social media posts.

Some 53 percent of Wisconsin residents have completed the COVID-19 vaccine series, according to Wisconsin Department of Health Services data. About 56 percent of Wisconsin residents have had at least one vaccine dose.
