JANESVILLE, WI — After five years apart, a dog and her owner are happily reunited.

Ginger the dog was stolen from her owner, Barney, more than five years ago, according to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin, but her family never stopped looking for her.

That paid off earlier this month, after the Beloit Police Department posted on Facebook about a stray dog, who was eventually brought to the humane society in Janesville. The organization received a call from Barney a few days later, thinking the dog was Ginger.

“When he arrived, staff led Barney to the back of the shelter to make sure it was her,” the humane society said in a Facebook post. “As soon as they saw each other, there was no doubt.”

Barney shared his gratitude in a comment on the post.
