9 Wisconsin Schools Named National Blue Ribbon Schools

WISCONSIN — Nine Wisconsin schools have ranked among the National Blue Ribbon Schools, the U.S. Department of Education announced Tuesday.

Some 325 schools were picked across the country for their high performance measured by nationally normed tests and for their sccuess in closing achievement gaps between its students.

"This year's cohort of honorees demonstrates what is possible when committed educators and school leaders create vibrant, welcoming, and affirming school cultures where rich teaching and learning can flourish," U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said at a visit to Walter R. Sundling Jr. High School in Palatine, Illinois.

Here are the Wisconsin schools on the National Blue Ribbon Schools 2021 list:

  • Coloma Elementary School, Coloma, Wisconsin.
  • Drummond Elementary School, Drummond, Wisconsin.
  • Foxview Intermediate School, De Pere, Wisconsin.
  • Hatley Elementary School, Hatley, Wisconsin.
  • Jefferson Lighthouse Elementary School, Racine, Wisconsin.
  • Marquette University High School, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
  • River Crest Elementary School, Hudson, Wisconsin.
  • Robinwood Elementary School, Franklin, Wisconsin.
  • Westview Elementary School, Platteville, Wisconsin.

These schools were commended for working to keep students healthy and safe while meeting their academic, social, emotional and mental health needs, Cardona said.

"In the face of unprecedented circumstances, you found creative ways to engage, care for, protect, and teach our children," Cardona said. "Blue Ribbon Schools have so much to offer and can serve as a model for other schools and communities so that we can truly build back better."

The national program started in 1982 and recognizes up to 420 schools from the U.S. and its territories. Elementary, middle and high schools are all eligible. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has given around 10,000 awards to more than 9,000 schools since its inception, the department said.
