David Vox Mullen & Danny Reyes Talk "The Herro's Journey"

A few days after the world premiere of "The Herro's Journey," I interviewed Producer David Vox Mullen & Director Danny Reyes.

A few days after attending the world premiere of The Herro's Journey, I had the pleasure of interviewing Producer David Vox Mullen and Director Danny Reyes. Still amped from the premiere, they shared their thoughts.

You can read my full recap of the night at The Herro's Journey Premiere on the Wisconsin Patch. Without spoiling the film, it traces the life and career of Wisconsin promoter David Herro and his son. While wrestling is the backdrop, this is the story of a man and his son and it is simply beautiful.

Vox and Danny were honest in discussing the ups and downs of making this documentary. Despite a few near catastrophes in the process, they remained undaunted, positive the film and David were worth it. They were right.

I enjoyed hearing about the process from conception to the premiere. They talked about what they learned about themselves, the industry and David. They never spoke in "promotion-speak," although clearly they are out to promote the film. Instead, they spoke from their hearts, which actually fits with the concept of the film.

The Herro's Journey doesn't try to make David a hero. To those who know him, he already is. To those who don't know him, they will see the hero he is if they watch The Herro's Journey. That's one of the best parts of the film. It's not a campaign for David fandom. They will come naturally after you see him dive into his businesses, discuss his family (including a poignant moment about his mom's death), caring for attendees at his shows and the relationship with his son Kal.

Oh yes, the father-son connection is a main part of the doc. Once again, Neither Vox, nor Danny, nor David shied away from broaching the topic of nepotism in the doc. Instead, they quickly (and rightly) negate it with plain facts.

Vox and Danny discuss all of this and more. They also give a tiny clue as to what might be next for them. Once they make any announcements, I will share it here. For now, enjoy the interview and look out for The Herro's Journey when it is available to the public.
