WISCONSIN — As we approach the spring election in Wisconsin, voters should re-acquaint themselves with the different ways they can cast a ballot.

Several impactful elections are on the line for the April 4 election. Voters across the state will not only have to decide between two candidates to serve on the Wisconsin Supreme Court, but they will also be faced with two questions that have the capacity to change the Wisconsin Constitution. Meanwhile at the local level, voters will choose new mayors, judges, council members and school board members.

Many voters will likely decide to head to their local polling place on April 4, but that isn't the only way you can vote. Wisconsinites can also vote absentee by visiting their clerk ahead of the election or by mailing a ballot in.

Here are the deadlines to know about voting early:

If you've voted absentee in the past and requested an absentee ballot this year, clerks began sending them out on March 14. Thereafter, clerks are required to fulfill requests for absentee ballots as they come in within two business days.

The final day to request an absentee ballot is March 30. But if you plan on returning a ballot via mail, the U.S. Postal Service recommended people send it out at least seven days before an election. In this case that is March 28, which is before the final day to request an absentee ballot.

Voters who wish to vote in person ahead of the election can often do so at their clerk's office. Hours and availability differ between municipalities, but in general, you will be able to vote early in-person starting Tuesday and until April 2.
