The Herro's Journey Premiere
The Herro's Journey, a documentary about Wisconsin promoter David Herro, had its premiere showing to a packed crowd at The Bend Theater.

Last night I attended the world premiere of The Herro's Journey, a fantastic documentary about the life of David Herro, an incredible man. The night was wonderful, magical even.
Directed by Danny Reyes and produced by David Vox Mullen, The Herro's Journey was two years in the making. Actually, it was a lifetime in the making, the lifetime of David Herro.
David is a wrestling promoter based in Wisconsin. While wrestling is the backdrop of this film, the real story is of David the father.

I met David about 14 years ago at Blizzard Brawl, his big annual wrestling event. That's also when I met Kal. Right from that first show, they made me feel like a #superfriend (as David calls his large circle of friends). Although just a toddler then, Kal mingled with fans and was a part of the show and he did it with poise and charisma beyond his years. David's pride and their closeness was clear.
Since then, I have seen Kal grow into a great young man with David right there for every step. Theirs is a heartwarming relationship.

A while back, my entertainer friend Vox told me he was working with Danny on a documentary about David. With their knowledge and respect for wrestling coupled with their skill sets, I knew they were the perfect ones to do this and it would be an extraordinary project. I anxiously awaited its production.

While all involved are humble, I could tell they felt the finished product is special and it is. Even with my high opinion of them, The Herro's Journey exceeded my expectations.
At the premiere, my pal Tony and I arrived early, wanting to take in the whole experience. On the red carpet, all involved greeted fans and friends. As the screening time approached, the crowd filled the Bend Theater.

The film took us from David's start in the wrestling business to present day. We saw raw emotion as David talked about Kal then and now. We saw tears as David remembered his late mother (and we cried along with him). There were great successes like 19 Blizzard Brawl events and Kal's wrestling career advancing. There was also the harsh reality of David's health issues. Through it all though, onscreen David smiled, like he always does.
As the film ended and the crowd erupted in applause, Vox, Danny, David and Kal were joined by Al Snow for a Q&A hosted by “Iron” Mike Curkov. “Uncle Al” is a major part of the Herro circle. Newsman Curkov was brought into that circle a few years back.

On a personal note, I sat back and realized I had interviewed all of these folks (except Danny, but look for that soon). More importantly, I was friends with these folks. Tony and I later discussed how we are proud to be a small part of that #superfriends group.
Obviously, there is a lot of wrestling-related content in The Herro's Journey, but at its core, it is not a wrestling movie. You can hate wrestling, but you will love this film. You can't leave this film and not feel good about life.
I don't know when The Herro's Journey will be available to the general public, but I will definitely share the news when it is announced and I highly encourage everyone to see The Herro's Journey.
