How Much Snow Fell And Where In Wisconsin: Lake-Effect Blast Buries Kenosha

A powerful lake-effect snow band dumped on Kenosha County and elsewhere early Monday, according to initial reports.

KENOSHA, WI — A narrow but intense lake-effect snow band buried parts of far southeastern Wisconsin overnight Sunday into Monday morning, with totals topping a foot in some Kenosha County towns.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, the band set up along the Lake Michigan shoreline early Monday and produced snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour at times. Visibility dropped to a quarter-mile or less along the lake, creating treacherous travel conditions through the early morning hours.

By 7 a.m., observers near Pleasant Prairie reported 13 inches of snow, the highest total in the region. Nearby areas saw similar amounts:

Farther inland, snowfall dropped off sharply. Sturtevant saw just 2 inches, while South Milwaukee picked up only a half-inch.

A Winter Weather Advisory remained in effect until 6 a.m. Monday for Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha counties, with snow-covered roads, blowing snow, and poor visibility reported overnight.

The National Weather Service said the lake-effect snow has ended, but temperatures will remain chilly to start the week. Highs Monday are expected to reach the mid-30s before gradually warming into the 50s by Thursday and Friday.

Forecasters said there’s a slight chance for another round of light snow late Monday night into Tuesday, followed by a stretch of dry, milder weather later in the week.
