Ice Castles Set To Open In Lake Geneva On Saturday

After reported delays because of weather, people will soon be able to visit castles made of ice in southeastern Wisconsin.

LAKE GENEVA, WI — A network of ice castles, tunnels and more will be opening up for visitors in southeastern Wisconsin on Saturday.

Tickets for the Lake Geneva Ice Castles experience start around $25, according to its website. The experience is also annually set up in Utah, New York, Minnesota and New Hampshire, a fact sheet from the company behind the castles said.

The Lake Geneva opening comes after weather delayed the original opening, according to a report by FOX6 News.

The castles are built by hand, requiring thousands of hours of work to create, the fact sheet said. Icicles are harvested by hand and sculpted into larger formations that make up a castle across about 1 acre weighing over 25 million pounds.

Visitors can expect frozen towers, crawl spaces and even ice-carved thrones. The company was founded in 2011 after Utah artist Brent Christensen tried building a castle for his daughter. The castle turned out more crowd's than just his daughter, though, and it has grown into a tourist attraction across the country.
