Ruling On Counting Absentee Ballots In Wisconsin Faces Appeal

Wednesday's appeal was anticipated after a federal judge made the ruling on Monday.

MADISON, WI—The Wisconsin Legislature, controlled by Republicans, has appealed a federal court ruling that allows absentee ballots to be counted up to six days after the General Election on Nov. 3, according to an AP report.

The deadline for returning an absentee ballot to have it counted is 8 p.m. on Election Day. Democrats and their allies sued to extend the deadline citing challenges from the pandemic and the large number of absentee ballots expected.

According to the AP report, the Legislature’s attorneys said on Wednesday that they plan to ask the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to put the ruling on hold pending appeal. The case is anticipated to reach the U.S. Supreme Court.
