2 Dead In Plane Crash Near Oshkosh Airshow

Monday was the first day of the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh Airshow.

OSHKOSH, WI — Two people died in an airplane crash near the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh Air Show on Monday, which marked the first day of the event.

At 12:15 p.m., first responders were alerted to a plane crash in a farm field near Old Knapp Road and Nekimi Avenue in the town of Nekimi.

The field is about two miles south of the EAA AirVenture's Oshkosh Airshow event, authorities said.

At the scene, responders found the plane was "fully engulfed" in flames, the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "At this time, we can confirm that there were two occupants in the plane, and that they are both deceased."

The identity of the deceased and all other plane identifiers are being withheld as the families are being notified.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.

"Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased occupants," the sheriff's office said.
