4 Killed In Plane Crash: Police

COLES COUNTY, IL — Four people from Wisconsin were killed over the weekend when a single-engine plane crashed in downstate Illinois, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. Saturday in a field southeast of Coles County Memorial Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The victims, who are all Menomonie residents, have been identified as Ross R. Nelson, 46; Raimi A. Rundle, 45; Courtney L. Morrow, 36; and Michael H. Morrow, 48, according to state police, who said all four occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.

The aircraft was a Cessna C180G and the location of the crash was about 3 miles south of Mattoon in the 500 block of County Road 1400 North in Trilla, authorities said.

"Terrible news out of Coles County," Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said Saturday in a post on X. "My administration is monitoring the situation as we keep those impacted by the plane crash in our thoughts today. Thank you to the first responders who rushed to the scene. Please follow the guidance of officials as they provide assistance."

The plane remained in the road with the road closed until around 5 p.m. Sunday, according to police, who said the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
