Forecasters Expect Thunderstorms, Damaging Winds And Chance Of Hail In Southern WI

Forecasters predict that thunderstorms from late morning to evening will include the chance of hail and a tornado across southern Wisconsin.

WISCONSIN — Scattered thunderstorms with heavy rains and damaging winds are expected across southern Wisconsin from morning to evening Monday, the National Weather Service reported.

The agency has issued a hazardous weather outlook for the east central, south central and southeast parts of the state. Weather officials said that an area from Madison to the Fox Valley have the greatest risk of severe storms.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to start late in the morning and to continue through the afternoon and evening, weather officials said. A few storms may become severe and produce damaging winds. Tornadoes and large hail are also possible from mid-afternoon to early evening.

Weather officials said that the greatest severe weather threat will occur east of Interstate 90.

Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 4 p.m. High near 74. South wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 p.m. and midnight, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Low around 61. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of showers before 10 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 69. West wind 10 to 15 mph.

Tuesday Night: Patchy fog after 1 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. West wind 5 to 10 mph.

Wednesday: A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 4 p.m. Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Light and variable wind becoming southeast 10 to 15 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Wednesday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., then a slight chance of showers after 4 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. South wind 10 to 15 mph becoming southwest after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
