WISCONSIN — We Energies announced Wednesday that it will join a multistate effort to expand electric car charging infrastructure across the Midwest, with a Wisconsin focus.

There are more than 2 million electric cars on the roads in the U.S., the company said. There will be 10 times as many by 2030, the Edison Electric Institute said.

“This is another part of our effort to build a bright, sustainable future for our customers and communities,” WEC Energy Group President and CEO Kevin Fletcher said in a statement. “From Milwaukee to Denver, Green Bay to Oklahoma City and thousands of miles in between, this Midwest charging network will give EV drivers confidence they will be able to find a charger when they need one.”
