Wisconsin Counties With High COVID-19 Transmission Multiplying

Over 50 Wisconsin counties have had high COVID-19 transmission rates in the past seven days.

WISCONSIN — Wisconsin counties with high COVID-19 virus transmission rates have tripled since July as the delta variant spreads.

As of Wednesday, over 50 Wisconsin counties had "high" transmission rates, which means at least 100 people out of 100,000 in the past seven days, according to data by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

These are the counties with the highest reported transmission rates over seven days:

  • Ozaukee County, with 240 reported cases out of 100,000 people.
  • Taylor County, with 226 reported cases.
  • Adams County, with 223 reported cases.
  • Jackson County, with 214 reported cases.
  • Chippewa County, with 214 reported cases.

These are the counties with the most confirmed cases over seven days:

  • Milwaukee County, with 1,894 confirmed cases.
  • Dane County, with 664 confirmed cases.
  • Waukesha County, with 654 confirmed cases.
  • Racine County, with 306 confirmed cases.
  • Washington County, with 274 confirmed cases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people wear masks indoors in public spaces regardless of vaccination status in counties with high or substantial rates.

Getting vaccinated for COVID-19 is the best way to prevent its spread, health officials said. Health officials announced Wednesday that people with compromised immune systems were eligible for a third vaccine dose.

In late July, only 11 counties had high transmission rates.
