Bedroom Catches Fire In Brookfield Home; Nobody Seriously Injured

The Brookfield Fire Department extinguished a fire that broke out in a multi-family home Wednesday evening.

BROOKFIELD, WI — Nobody was seriously injured after a multi-family home on Iris Court near Lakeview Drive caught fire Wednesday evening, according to the Brookfield Fire Department.

The fire was reported in one of the building's bedrooms around 7:30 p.m., according to the fire department. All residents, including their dogs, managed to get out of the house before firefighters arrived.

People were exiting the building when authorities arrived but no smoke was immediately visible from the outside. Firefighters entered and found heavy smoke and fire in the second-floor bedroom, according to the news release.

Crews fought the fire and checked to see if it expanded then searched each floor. Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 7:46 p.m.

Emergency medical services checked one civilian for a medical problem but authorites said the person did not want to be brought to the hospital. No firefighters were injured. The residents of the home are being helped by The American Red Cross, authorites said.

The Brookfield Fire Department recommends that people install smoke alarms inside every sleeping room, outside each sleeping area and on every floor. If possible, smoke alarms should be connected so when one sounds, they all sound.
