Central Students Walk to Raise Money for Tornado Victims

Brookfield Central High School students will take to the sidewalks on Tuesday and will walk to school to raise money for those affected by tornados in Texas and Oklahoma.

Brookfield Central High School students will take to the sidewalks on Tuesday and will walk to school to raise money for those affected by tornados in Texas and Oklahoma.

Students will pledge a minimum of $10 and will either walk from their homes or from the central meeting place at 7:15 a.m. at Brookfield Presbyterian Church at 1485 N Brookfield Rd.

Two hundred students are expected to take part in the walk with the idea being to use the money they would have spent on gas and parking to donate to the relief efforts in Texas and Oklahoma.

The event is being sponsored by the school’s Key Club with support of the Student Council and K’nex Club.

“I told the students to imagine what it would be like to only have the clothes on their back and nothing else. Everything else was destroyed by the tornado. That is the situation facing the people in Moore, Oklahoma,” said Ronn Blaha, advisor for the Key Club. “Students have really gotten behind the event. They are looking for a way to help.”

Students will receive a Tshirt in exchange for the donation, and will have refreshments waiting for them at school when they arrive.
The first Walk to School to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina raised over $5000. The last walk to raise funds for the tornado victims in Alabama raised over $2500.
