Man Buys Porsche on eBay — or So He Thought

After sending wire transfers of $13,500, a Brookfield man learned the sale was a fraud, police say.

A Brookfield man wired $13,500 to a seller on eBay to buy an advertised Porsche 912 before learning the sale was a fraud, police say.

The man told Brookfield police on Jan. 9 that he wired $7,254 on Dec. 28 and was told the wire transfer had failed, according to reports. He then sent a second transfer for $6,246 on Jan. 4.

After failing to receive the Porsche, the man investigated and learned from eBay that the car sale was fraudulent. The company asked the man to report it to the Internet Crime Complaint Center, www.ic3.gov and local police, which he did.

Chase Bank, which made the wire transfers for the man, was investigating the transactions.
