BROOKFIELD, WI — A $15.6 million project to resurface five miles of Bluemound Road in Waukesha County is set to kick off in July and last until 2024, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.

Work will take place on US 18 (Bluemound Road) between Interstate 94 and the east Waukesha County line, near 124th Street. The contract, primarily assigned to Stark Pavement Corporation, will take two phases. The first begins July 10 and lasts until the fall. Work will resume again in 2024, WisDOT said.

Beyond the resurfacing, the project is set to replace traffic signals where Bluemound Road intersects with Underwood Crossing Parkway and 124th Street, WisDOT said. Pedestrian accommodations will also be replaced, officials said.

Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction during the day, but during the evening and early morning, the road will be reduced to one lane, WisDOT said. The lane closures may extend into the day during pavement repairs and work.

Officials said people will still be able to access local homes and businesses during the construction. After the work in 2023, construction is set to resume in the spring of 2024 and last into the fall of 2024.
