Sale of Quarry Lands Helps Develop Space for Residential, Park Plans

The public meeting on Wednesday will offer residents a chance to ask questions about the proposed project.

A public hearing will offer residents a chance to learn more about plans for the sale of the former quarry lands located south of Burleigh Road and east of Lilly Road.

A multi-year project would ensue at the quarry with the proposed sale of the land currently owned by The Quarry Group Venture Lands to Super Excavators Inc., according to the city's website. The project would involve the deposit of "clean fill material," from highway projects to help shape the land and prepare it for development.

The city hopes to create a park with walking trails on the space, and 10 acres of the land would be developed into family residential lots, the city website says.

The site is a total of 85-acres, which includes a 23-acre quarry lake.

The public meeting will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brookfield East High School in the cafeteria. Attendees can enter at the West or Northwest doors. There is no presentation planned, but officials from the different entities involved will be available to answer questions.
