Woman's 'Friend' Accused of Stealing $45,000 Worth of Her Jewelry

In the 'with friends like these' category, resident finds that while she was powdering her nose, visitor to her home was taking a powder with her jewelry and checks.

At 11:08 p.m. April 9, police were called to a home in the 16600 block of Willow Ridge Lane on a report of the theft of more than $45,000 worth of jewelry.

The victim said she suspected a friend who had been visiting. She had gone to the bathroom and found her friend in her bedroom when she came out. She told police the suspect then made numerous visits to her bathroom.

Police investigated and arrested a 52-year-old Brookfield woman for the theft of $45,000 to $50,000 worth of jewelry and for forging a check belonging to the victim. Her case was referred to the Waukesha County District Attorney's Office, but no charges have yet been filed.

The suspect was convicted in 1998 on two counts of issuing worthless check, and five more counts were dismissed but read into her record.

In 2004, she was convicted of defrauding public assistance for benefits of greater than $10,000, a felony. She was sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years extended supervision.
