3 Percent Tax Hike Needed to Balance Budget, School Officials Say

Residents will likely have toΒ fork over more on next year's property tax billΒ as school officialsΒ balance Nicolet's 2013-14 budget despiteΒ waning state aid and unavoidable expenses, according to GlendaleNOW.
District officials are projecting levying an additionalΒ 3 percent next year β residents with a $300,000 home would pay an extraΒ $43 on theΒ district's portion of theΒ tax bill.
School officials say while state lawmakers increased the state-imposed per student spending byΒ $75, state aid decreased 10 percent and the school must pay on debt forΒ capital projects including a stormwater overhaul, energy efficiency work, and remodeling of the special education wing, according to NOW. Tax ratesΒ will increase over the next five years to help pay for energy savingsΒ projects.Β
