Crime Corner: Counterfeit $100 Bill, Missing Stethoscope and Vandalism

The following are summaries of reports from the Fox Point and Bayside police departments:

Counterfeit Bill: Around 4 p.m. Thursday, were called to for a possible counterfeit situation. The manager told police that they had been given what he suspected to be a counterfeit $100 bill. He described the suspect and said the woman even left the store without taking back the $100 when the employee wouldn't let her use it.

After a Fox Point special investigator took a closer look at the bill, she concluded that the $100 bill was actually a bleached $5 bill.

Stolen Stethoscope: A 64-year-old Fox Point woman discovered a handful of items were missing from her jeep around noon on Sunday in the 800 block of West Jonathan Lane. Her car was parked in her driveway, in the 7200 block of Longacre Road, however it was left unlocked.

She told officers that sometime throughout the overnight hours of Saturday evening into Sunday morning, someone had gone into her car and stolen the following items:

  • Roughly $5 in change
  • Four CD’s
  • A stethoscope
  • A blood pressure cuff and gauge. 

The woman estimated the total value of stolen property to be about $255. She said she did not hear anything overnight and, as of Sunday, officers have not been made aware of any other reported thefts from the overnight hours.

Filched Fountain Pump:

A Bayside woman reported that between 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. Thursday, someone had stolen the electric pump from her water fountain in her backyard and the five-foot extension cord used to power the pump. The fountain itself had also been tipped over in the process. The estimated total loss comes to $35.
