Man Strikes Fire Hydrant in Fox Point
A 'sip' of a screwdriver drink nabbed this 19-year-old an underage drinking ticket.

A 19-year-old Fox Point man was arrested just before 3 a.m. July 24 when officers found him standing barefoot in the middle of North Whitney Road and his vehicle chilling in the grass.
When arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle off the road and the man standing barefoot in the roadway. He told the officer he was stupid for driving off the road.
He said he was going east on Bradley Road and then attempted to make a left turn onto North Whitney Road when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a fire hydrant. He said the collision happened just minutes prior to the officer's arrival.

He explained to officers that he was alone and not injured. Due to the circumstances of the collision, the time of night and previous alcohol-related contact with the man, officers asked how much the man had to drink. He said he was not drunk, and had not been drinking.
However, officers could smell a faint odor of alcohol on his breath, so they asked him again. He then admitted he had one sip of a friend’s screwdriver drink but said he was sober. His preliminary breath test registered 0.051.

He told the officers there was a liquor bottle in a friend’s bag in the back seat. He said he needed his friend’s bag, and his bag, which were located on the floor in the backseat. Police inspected the bag the man indicated was his and found an opened, but full, liter bottle of Skol vodka and an empty High Life beer can. He told officers the alcohol belonged to his friend he had just dropped off, but didn’t know his friend’s name.
He was arrested and cited for absolute sobriety, underage person transporting intoxicants and failure to keep his vehicle under control.
