Nicolet Recreation Department Offering 29 New Programs This Summer

Summer camps, dance clinics and life-long friendships are all part of the recreation department summer experience.

As spring creeps its way through the snow and small patches of grass begin to appear, many families are starting to think about spring and summer activities. But these programs aren't just soccer and basketball camps for kids, there's programs for toddlers to senior citizens.

The Nicolet Recreation Department is offering 29 new programs this year including a cross fitness boot camp, a Green Bay Packer's football camp, Milwaukee Kickers summer soccer camp and a pee wee playground.

"I believe getting children involved in summer activities promotes a healthy lifestyle and creates positive life long memories and experiences," Athletic and Recreation Director Kirk Krychowiak said.

"Both these coaches have a lot of passion for what they do," Nate Brooks, assistant athletic director said. "The kids that sign-up will really enjoy these programs
this summer. Our most popular program year in and year out is our Summer Camp program," Brooks said.

"Camp at the Hills" takes place at Glen Hills Middle School Monday through Friday, June 20-July 22. The campers can make arts and crafts, play sports and games, there's special guest speakers, and field trips.

"Lisa Vondra, our summer camp director, does a wonderful job," Brooks said. "Campers really like the program because they get to be with their friends and they look up to the counselors who are mostly high school and college age.

Summer activities do more than just keep kids active, but help them build important relationships.

"Participation in extracurricular events and activities have a myriad of positive outcomes, like new friendships, relationships, knowledge and life skills,"  Krychowiak said.
