Nicolet Students and Faculty Remember 'Glazzy'

Print of Kindred Spirits dedicated to Lon Glaznap, Nicolet American Studies teacher.

Students and faculty gathered in the library for the unveiling of "Kindred Spirits," a print of a famous painting loved by Lon Glaznap, or "Glazzy" as many knew him before he passed in September.

Kathleen Kean, U.S. history teacher, organized the dedication. Kean taught in conjunction with Glaznap during his more than 25 years at Nicolet.

"His enthusiasm for learning, his spontaniety of creating projects together. I miss that he could see things about the students I couldn't," Kean said.

Glaznap's connection with students was so strong that many even came to the dedication.

One student recalled a Thanksgiving feast that Glaznap organized to commemorate the pilgrims. Everyone brought in food and they watched a movie.

"It was the kind of thing he was really excited about, and that made everyone else excited to do it," Ariel Zangwill said. "It was his passion for history and full American studies, it was really fun to watch somebody who knew so much about it still be so excited about it all the time. He was really, really passionate about the arts especially."

School Board President Marilyn Franklin also attended the dedication. She said that Glaznap — who retired after last school year and died just a few months later — will be very missed.

"He was a very enthusiastic teacher," Franklin said. "He always had a smile on his face. He was always upbeat and an integral part of the Nicolet family."

"We're never going to forget Lon," District Administrator Rick Monroe said. "This is a fitting tribute."
