Fire Forces New Restaurant to Close Until Next Week

Melting aluminum pot leaves smoke damage in Vietnamese restaurant in Bayside.

A new Bayside restaurant will remain closed until after Thanksgiving following an early-morning kitchen fire on Wednesday.

Around 6 a.m., responded to a burglar alarm at and saw a fire in the back by the kitchen.

Batallion Chief Pete Basulacchi said firefighters broke the front door to get into the restaurant and found a large soup pot in the kitchen that was burning on the stove.

"It was aluminum, and the actual pan had broke and melted it got that hot," Busalacchi said. "There was no actual fire to extinguish, but there was smoke so we opened the doors and ventilated."

"Nobody was here, there was just a lot of smoke but nothing burned," manager Michael Truong said.

The restaurant will remain closed until the North Shore Health Department can complete its inspection of the establishment, which is expected to happen after the holiday weekend.
