Pink Flamingos, Mayan Calendar and An Axe Found on Beach

A homeowner in the 1500 block of West Fairy Chasm Road was a bit frightened Saturday when he noticed some strange items along the beach in front of his house — so frightened, he wouldn't go down to investigate the odd objects alone. 

Both the homeowner and the Bayside police officer walked down the steps together, according to a police report, and found a mattress and a pink sleeping bag. There were also various beer and liquor bottles strewn in the vicinity, but that wasn't all. 

They continued walking and just to the north, they found a campsite complete with a chair, fire pit, pans, a pink plastic flamingo and some incense. There was also a child-sized xylophone, a Buddha statue and a Mayan calendar. The “campsite” appeared to have been raked of leaves, but did not appear to be used regularly or recently, according to the report. The campsite was in the 9000 block of North Bayside Drive.

Police confiscated an axe and a hedge trimmer and brought them back to the station.

But this isn’t the only weird Bayside news recently. Just two weeks ago, police found a cold, nearly full case of beer.

Around 9 p.m. Nov. 20, an officer was on patrol near the intersection of Rexleigh and Glencoe when he discovered an open case of beer next to the road just east of the intersection. According to the report, the officer checked the case and discovered it was a cold, 12-pack of Bud Light with only one can missing.

Police didn’t find anyone in the area who owned the beer, so it was inventoried as found property at the police station.
