Remembering When Senior Fire and Fall Prevention Program

Helping older adults live safely at home for as long as possible.

The Remembering When Fire & Fall Prevention Program was developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to help older adults live safely at home for as long as possible.

Presented by Public Education Specialist Jill K. Glanz and North Shore Health Department Registered Nurse Ann Brandstrom, this program is centered around 16 key safety messages – eight fire prevention, and eight fall prevention.

According to the NFPA, at age 65 and older, adults are twice as likely to be killed or injured by fires or falls, compared to the population at large. Thirty percent of people age 65 and older are involved in falls each year, the leading cause of death from unintentional injury in the home.
